MEETING

At our next meeting on Monday, January 18,
we will meet at the Oviedo Woman's Club building because our regular meeting location will be unavailable.  The building is located at 414 King Street, Oviedo.

At this meeting we will review photos taken on the Central Florida Zoo field trip or any other recent photos taken by members that they would like to share with the group.  Include at least one photo that is the result of trying something new as Susan suggests in the President's Message.

As usual, bring your photos on a thumb drive that contains only those photos or a folder with only those photos in it to make it easy for our projectionist.
PLAN AHEAD #1
FARMER'S MARKET
 OVIEDO FARMER'S MARKET
SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 2016

Plan ahead!  We will be hosting a booth at the Oviedo Farmer's Market the first Saturday in March, so decide what you would like to display.

Space is a bit more restricted this year, so we are asking that members submit no more than three photographs and we will not be able to accommodate boxed prints.  All photographs should be mounted or framed and ready to hang.

As in prior years, the photographs may be offered for sale or simply displayed to "show off" your work.  Any photograph offered for sale must be marked with a price and the member must be present.

The Oviedo Farmer's Market is held the first Saturday of each month at the Lawton House.
PLAN AHEAD #2
CITY HALL GALLERY
 OVIEDO CITY HALL GALLERY

Plan ahead!  We will be rotating five of the ten City Hall photos out and adding five new photographs in March.

The theme for the new five photographs is "Nature", and should represent nature as seen in the Oviedo area.  Any type of nature photography - birds, animals, plants, landscapes - will be considered if it was photographed in Seminole County and preferably in the Oviedo area.

Instructions on how and where to submit will be provided later, but start planning what you will want to submit.

PRESIDENT'S  MESSAGE

My thanks to all our past and present officers, coordinators and members.  You have all worked together to support the club and every year the club does more to support Oviedo.  2016 is going to be a great year and I know we can do even more.  I know you're wondering "what is she up to?"  My simple idea is perfectly stated in this quote from Neil Gaiman:

"I hope that in this year to come you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're doing something."

I want us all to have fun while learning and doing and my hope is your curiosity about what you can do differently with your photography will be piqued.  Our first speaker Herbie Martin certainly provided inspiration for us to all be more creative and think outside the box.  I told Herbie his presentation worked perfectly to kick off my theme.

So go out, have some fun and do something new to you.  Don't do birds?  Take a bird picture.  Think phone photos aren't worth the effort, use it and see what you can do.  Have a new piece of equipment or software or something you've had for ages and never used?  Pull it out and give it a try.

Learn by doing and then share the result.  I'm challenging you to include at least one such photo in the shots you bring to our January 18th Photo Review.  I'll explain what three things are new to me about my photo.  I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing about what new thing you did.  And don't forget to bring a camera.

Susan

ED YARBOROUGH NATURE CENTER
AT THE GENEVA WILDERNESS AREA

The Geneva Wilderness Area is a 180 acre site on SR 426 near the community of Geneva.  There you'll find many native Florida plants and a diverse collection of wildlife. A hike through these habitats can reward visitors with the sighting of gopher tortoise, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, grey fox, sandhill cranes, wading birds, owls, hawks, and many other bird species.

The Ed Yarborough Nature Center hosts many nature and environmental programs.  Coming up in January are Beginning Bird-Watching courses on Saturday the 16th, Sunday the 17th,  and Saturday the 23rd.  Other courses and programs are offered during the year.  Of particular interest to some are the childrens's nature programs that are frequently offered.

Their website - here - provides additional information.  If you'd like to be on their mailing list for future programs, make the request at LHartsock@seminolecountyfl.gov
